Donnybrook 3 Nov 1916

Donnybrook, ND November 3, 1916

 Dear Aunt, Grandmother and family,

received your letter. Dad received the money in July too. Have to apologize that I did not write for such a long time, but Lui's boy ________. Do promise to do better. We are all healthy. I'm at Dad's today. We have slaughtered a pig. I am the butcher. Will make sausage too. Aunt, you should be here and help us. Could eat all the "Blutwurst" you want. We had a bad harvest this year. I threshed only 1800 bushels of wheat and 1000 bushels of oat and barley. But I have 22 pigs and 20 cattle. So we have enough to eat. Dad was very happy that you haven't forgotten about him. He feels pretty good. Was the .... we ever had. It was too hot and dry. We now have very bad weather, have snow and rain. Want to let you know that Lydia left her husband. You could not live with him any more. The court gave her the whole property, the farm and the children. She lives in Canada about 800 miles from here as you may know.

The Canadians are very strict with the laws. They have arrested her husband once before but she took him back. Our Mina has left for the same job she had last year. She will be back for a visit on Christmas. I will see if she can send you a picture. She likes it there very much. She's living with the same people as last year. On the 13th this month Dad turns seventy. Wish you all could be here. Will finish with best wishes to all of you.
