Origin of the Name

Güntlisberger

Meaning of the name:
Name of villages: Gümpel, Schwanden, Gemeinde Rüderswil, 1381: Guntersberg, 1486: Güntisperg (Name of a village in Kanton Bern, in 1838 Durheim still notes both names: Gümpel und Güntisberg). The hamlet of  Güntisberg, part of the commnity Wald, Kanton Zurich is hardly the origin of the name. The  “Güntlisberg” or “ Güntisberg” is the mountain of a man whose name starts with Gunt-, e.g. Gunther or Gundolt. “Gunt” as part of a name means Fight.
