The Kindelberger Family originally came from the Emmental, Kanton Bern, Switzerland.
After the Thirty Years’ War (1618-48) the family emigrated - like many other reformed swiss families - to the then devastated Palatinate in South West Germany.
The first Kindelberger/Güntensberger in the Palatinate was the swiss emigrant Peter Güntensberger (1615-70) who took his residence in Wegelnburg County. He is probably the forefather of all Kindelbergers in this region.
During the next 250 years members of the Kindelberger Family are detectable in Wegelnburg County and the Alsace. During the 19th century many Kindelbergers imigrated to the United States (mainly Ohio and West Virginia).
This website is not only dedicated to the history of the Kindelberger family, their relatives in the Palatinate and all over the world.
Our data base includes almost 19 500 persons, who are more or less, or not at all related to me. It bases on the church records of the “Amt Wegelnburg” which Rev. Dennis A. Kastens and his friends transcribed and published in long years’ work.
Many people provided their family trees to fill the gaps between 1850 and today and to find emigrated relatives.Without their help this kind of home page would have not been possible.
We are proud that the virtual library of the University of Heidelberg included this home page in their list of interesting links !
